this information is valuable because it is how we are told about our social and political reality, and how we talk about it. it tells us what is happening, and in doing so, shapes what we believe and how we behave.

we study Pakistan's information system to describe its state: how power moves through it, who decides what gets covered, what we are shown, and what we never see.

describing the system lets us hold its outcomes in our hands and look at them. it adds colors and textures to large conceptual institutions, like social media platforms and journalism, making them tangible and understandable. most importantly, it makes them critiqueable.

we write reports that describe what we find. the methods and the data are already open in the archive, so anyone can check the work or make a different case from it.

from theory and from the observed behaviors of the information system, we judge its current state and argue what a better one should do.

moving anywhere needs a destination: an idea of what good institutions, good journalism, a good information system should look like. we build these ideals in the open, collaborating with the public and with experts, and we test them against the country as it actually is. and we argue and advocate for moving towards these ideals.

we write essays: we argue when systems fail their responsibilities, and we propose what better would look like. our judgements can be critiqued the same way our reports can be checked.
